Changchun Longjia International Airport provides convenient air transport services for Changchun and Jilin, the two largest cities in Jilin Province.
Changchun Airport was built under the 4D standards, with the terminal covering 40,000 sq m (9.9 acres) to enable it a yearly capacity of handling 3,200,000 passengers. Well-equipped with such facilities as smoking rooms, first-class lounges, banks, post office, shops, etc; the terminal is specially designed with 7 boarding bridges, which greatly expedite the procedures of either departure or arrival. It is presently connected to over 30 domestic cities and serves International flights to Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Sendai, and other major cities.

-In 1998, the project proposal for Changchun Longjia International Airport was ratified by the Sate Council and the Central Military Committee of China.
Changchun Airport, located at the conjunction between northeastern part of Changchun Jiutai County’s Donghu Town and Longjiapu Town, is 31.2 kilometers away from Changchun downtown and 76 kilometers from Jilin downtown. After the completion, the airport can handle Airbus-300 Airbus-320, Boeing-767, Boeing-757, Boeing-737, MD-82, MD-90 and other large-sized planes.
- On June 10, 2002, the preliminary requisition work started.
- On May 29, 2003, foundation laying ceremony for the departure lobby was held. The total investment on the construction work reached RMB 1.81813 billion. The ex-Premier Zhu Rongji attended the ceremony and autographed the project.
- On July 17, 2005, with the approval by the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, Changchun Longjiapu Airport was renamed as Changchun Longjia International Airport.
- On August 26, 2005, 9:28 A.M., carrying the workers, the advanced representatives and the senior representatives working for the civil aviation, a plane of China Southern Airlines Jilin Branch landed at Changchun Longjia International Airport, which marked the completion of the construction project of the civil-traffic-only airport in Jilin Province.
- After the formal operation of the new airport, Changchun Dafangshen Airport stopped its civil aviation service. All international and domestic flights as well as air cargo services were moved to the new airport. Business time and flight schedule remained the same as those which had been previously announced.

- Changchun City and Jilin City share the same new airport. Today, Changchun Dafangshen Airport has become military-purpose-only airport and the old Jilin Airport has been suspended. The operation of the new airport will absolutely promote the handling capacity in Jilin and Changchun in terms of the civil aviation industry, and create an air aisle for the civilian travel and economic exchanges in Jilin Province.
- Changchun Longjia International Airport is the only civil aviation airport shared by two central cities.
- The new airport covers 40,000 square meters integrating 7 parking lots (boarding through boarding bridges), 5 far parking lots (boarding through bus carriers), 7 domestic security checks and 5 international security checks.
- Maintaining the current 20 airlines to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjing, Chongqing, Xiamen, Nanjing, Fuzhou, Jinan, Qingdao, Yantai, Chengdu, Xian, Guilin, Kunming, Changcha, Dalian, Yanji, Xiantai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, the new airport is striving to create more domestic and international airlines, especially the airlines to South and North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. According to a report, China Southern Airlines Jilin Branch will add its airlines to Singapore, Southeast Asia, and create more airlines to Hong Kong, in an effort to expand its business scope.
- The new airport as a core, it can connect Harbin in the North, Shenyang and Dalian in the South, Yanji and Vladivostok in the East and Beijing in the West respectively. Longjia International Airport, Shenyang Airport and Harbin Airport can supplement each other in urgent situations.
- As the soly-invested subsidiary company affiliated to Capital International Airport Group (CIAG), the new airport can enjoy the priority of sharing the resources with CIAG and guarantee passengers more competitive air tickets.
- China Southern Airlines Jilin Branch will purchase Airbuses to substitute all the current MD-82 planes.
- By 2013, the new airport is expected to handle 3.2 million passengers, see off 1,700 peak-hour passengers and 56,700-ton cargo handling capacity.

Is it safe to take a taxi at Changchun Airport? I am arriving in late evening and it is my first time in Changchun.
