Karamay cityis located the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region municipality, northwest the jungar Basin.Is east longitude 84 ‘42 ',north latitude 45’36 ', whole city area 9,500 square kilometers. Under the Karmay city governs 4 areas ,2 townships 1 town. In 1990 the whole city population 260,000 people, Han Nationality accounted for 76.24%, Uygur, Khazak,hui, Mongolia,manju, xiba, Russia and so on more than 30 national minorities accounts for 23.7%.

The Karmay transportation is extremely convenient within the boundaries, three trunk highways pass through, local the road extend in all directions, have the regular bus service to lead to Urumqi and northern border each main city.
