Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage (Chengdu Museum of Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage) lies on the bank of the Huanhua Brook outside the western gate of Chengdu in Sichuan Province. It was the residence of Du Fu, the great realistic poet in China’s Tang Dynasty, when he was exiled to Chengdu. The Museum of Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage still retains its original structure as it was rebuilt during Emperor Jiaqing’ reign. 300 mu in size, the garden is the unique “ixture-type”Chinese classic garden. Inside the garden, nanmu trees stand towering into the sky, plums and bamboos form into woods, the brook meanders with gurgling water, bridges alternate with pavilions, flowers flank the paths leading to the wood gates, and winding tracks stretch far into the serene recesses. The garden is elegantly and beautifully laid out. The garden is fragrant all the year round with spring plums, summer lotuses, autumn chrysanthemums and winter orchids.
