24 km north of the Ancient City of Dali, under Peak Yunnong of the Cangshan Mountain,is Butterfly Spring. Here water issues from the sand and stones and gathers into a blue and clear pond of over 20km².The spring is densely shaded by two old bending silk trees locally known as butterfly trees. Every spring and summer when the flowers are in blossom, the silk trees emit a light fragrance attracting tens of thousands of butterflies. On the 1 4th of the fourth month of the lunar year, thousands and thousands of butterflies gather at the spring chasing each other, hanging on the trees in lines, and forming a wonderful view.
