This attraction lies at the foot of Daci (Great Compassion Hill), located about five km from Hangzhou between West Lake and Qiantang River.
The water from Tiger Running Spring is pure and sweet-tasting mineral water. It tastes especially

good when brewed with Longjing Tea. This water is even supposed to be therapeutic.
The story of this spring is about a monk, named Xingkong, who once lived in Daci Temple. He planned to leave the temple due to lack of water before he dreamt that a god told him two mighty tigers would provide a fountain at the temple. The next day, two tigers dug a hole where the spring now gushes. That is the origin of the spring’s name.

Today, Tiger Running Spring and the surrounding valley make up the Tiger Running Spring Forest Park. On the site is Li Shutong Memorial erected in honor of the scholar and hierarch, who was a master in music, drama, painting, and calligraphy and became a Buddhist at the Daci temple in 1981.
