And it was recognized as one of the “Four Ancient Civilizations of the World, together with Rome, Ahens,and Istanbul.It is a noted and was one of the oldest cities, beginning from 1126B.C.,the Western Zhou ,the Qin,the Western Han, the Sui and the Tang, altogether 12 dynasties,established their capitals in Xi’an for more than 1000 years. So it ranks first on the list of China’s seven largest ancient capitals.
Xian is located in the middle of the Yellow River valley and at the center of the Central Shaanxi Plain. It is surrounded by the Weihe River in the north and the Qinling Mountain Range in the south.The Central Shaanxi Plian ranges from Baoji city in the west to the Yellow River in the east. The plain is well-known as the “800-mile Grain Basin” because it has become a corn production base of Shaanxi Province as well as the nation’s bases of wheat, oil-bearing crops and cotton. The Weihe River and its tributies flowed in the vicinity of the city, so ,it was known as “a city surrounded by eight rivers”. It is 9983 square kilometers in total with municipal area of 826 square kilometers.
Shaanxi Province boasts an area of 205,600 square kilometers and a population of 36 million people.
Xi’an had a population of 8.07 million , the majority of Xi’an residents are Han Chinese, which make up 99.1% of the city’s total population. There are around 81,500 ethnic minorities living in Xi’an, including 50,000 Muslim Hui people, many of them concentrated in the famous Muslim quarter, which is also home to the beautiful 1,360 year old Great Mosque of Xi’an.
The weather in Xi’an is seasonal. Summer in Xi’an is hot and rainy with an average temperature of 26 degree C in June while winter is cold and dry with an average temperature of 0 degree C. in January. Spring from March to May and autumn from September to November would be the best seasons to visit Xian.
Since the earliest societies, humanity lived and multiplied here.Between the 11th and 8th centuries BC, the Zhou Dynasty established their captial at Haojing, located a few miles west of present-day Xi’an.We can get brief understanding on early agricultural society by the remains of Haojing. Now, Xian is the regional center in the northwest and one of the major tourist cities in China.
In the year 221B.C.,Emperor Qinshihuang estabulished the first feudal enpire in Chinese history.At that time,the techniques of metallurgy,machinery,pottery-making,spinning and leathwe-making are advanced in the world, which can be proved by the Museum of Terra Cotta of Warriors and Horses.
Xi’an is subdivided into 13 districts. The urban and suburban areas of the city are divided into seven (7) districts:Beilin District ,Yanta District ,Weiyang District ,Baqiao District ,Xincheng District ,
Lianhu District and Chang’an District .
Xian is also the starting point of the world famous Silk Road. And the steepy and characteristic Mt.Huashan delivers Xian natural atmosphere.

We are hoping to travel from Beijing to see the Terracotta Warriors? What is the best and most efficient way to travel Xian. We are only in Beijing for 4 days so time is of the matter.

The best and most efficient way is to fly from Beijing to Xian, then take the airport shuttle bus from Xian airport to Lintong. After arriving in Lintong, take a taxi to the Terracotta Warriors.
