It was called Xuedou Buddhist Temple of Senior Saint in ancient times and is one of the ten temples of Zen in the world.
The temple was first built in the Jin Dynasty, experienced rises and falls for many times, and was rebuilt in the eighth year of Xiantong’s period in the Tang Dynasty(the year 867). It was renamed Waterfall Kwan-yin Buddhist Temple.

The temple now preserves scriptures, “dragon collection of books obliged by the emperor”, and other rare and precious cultural relics, such as jade seal obliged by the emperor, dragon robe, and dragon earthen bowl as well jade Buddha, paintings of celebrities, calligraphy and inscriptions, etc. Two gingkoes of the Han Dynasty stand lofty in front of the temple gate.
Ningbo attractionsThe Xuedou Mountain rest houses of China Tourist Agency around the temple are the site where Jiang Jieshi placed Zhang Xueliang, a famous Patriotic general, under house arrest in those years.

These rest houses, which were built in 1988, now have been opened to the public as the exhibition hall of General Jiang’s story, which becomes a new human scenic spot in the national-level scenic area of the Xuedou Mountain.
